Jacob's Ladder
Jacob on his long journey from the south to the north, obeying his father Issac's request. He is traveling to Laban, son of Bethuel, his mother Rivka's brother, in order to find himself a wife.
And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Charan. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it for his pillow, and laid himself down in that place. (Genesis 28:10-11 [Leeser])
In his dream he sees a ladder coming down from heaven to the earth, and angels ascending on it to heaven.
And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south; and in thee and thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. (Genesis 28:13-14 [Leeser])
Is it not clear that because of this promise, that was also given to Abraham, that we are here in the land of Israel?
